Louis Soliano
Cultural Medallion recipient Louis Soliano is a towering figure in Singapore’s music history and one of Southeast Asia’s most respected jazz musicians. A master drummer, percussionist, and smooth jazz vocalist, Soliano has had an illustrious career spanning over six decades, helping to lay the foundations of Singapore’s modern jazz scene and inspiring generations of musicians across the region.
Born into the renowned Soliano musical family, Louis was immersed in music from an early age and began performing professionally in his teens. By the 1960s, he had already established himself as a top-tier musician, performing in prestigious venues and jazz clubs throughout Asia, including residencies in Hong Kong, Bangkok, Manila, and Tokyo. His impeccable sense of rhythm, musical versatility, and elegant stage presence quickly earned him a reputation among international artists and audiences alike.
​​Over the years, Louis Soliano has collaborated with global legends such as Matt Monro, Shirley Bassey, and Sarah Vaughan, and shared the stage with leading jazz musicians from around the world.
